Many spellings of Romanec

I came across your URL. Interesting how you have listed all the spellings of names that sound like Romanec in English. However, Romanec if translated from Ukrainian should actually be spelled Romanetz in English as the letter “c” in Ukrainian is pronounced “tz” in English. How this affects any genealogical researches I don’t know, but I thought I’d bring it to your attention on the off chance you did were not aware of this.

I would be interested to see what sort of genealogy you have so far. As far as I know my father came to Canada in 1951 and no one else in his family that he ever knew of ever set foot outside of Ukraine or Poland.

    Interesting. However, if you investigate the spelling of Romanyk, you will find that the Ukrainian “y” is sounded as “i” and the “k” as “c”. Thus the pronunciation of Romanyk is Romanic.
