Agree. Some of the more obvious self-evident variations seem to result from the letters that represent the sound of "off" such as "ov", "ow" and often followed by other endings such as "ski", i.e. Romanowski. Some other examples:

Romanov, Rominov, Rominov, Romanovich, Romanychev, Romanovski, Romanow.

my family came over from the ukrane in 1890. my family tree has a lot of different spellings, i wonder if they are derived from romanoff, prehaps intentially, per the order to assaniate every member, even cousins and distant relitaves. if you sign Romaniak , wich looks like Romanak , wich looks like Romanoff all these different spellings kinda just evolved from Romanoff. i named my 2 yr old daughter anastsia whom im at least 90 percent sure is a desendant of the last ruling family of russia.

Interesting. However, if you investigate the spelling of Romanyk, you will find that the Ukrainian "y" is sounded as "i" and the "k" as "c". Thus the pronunciation of Romanyk is Romanic.
